You wanna hear a naughty word? Budget. 🤠Budget can be a sore spot for any design, refresh, or renovation and many clients will run with their tail between their legs at the thought of it. Recently, at one of my networking meetings recently we had an accountant come on and she said something so profound for us, and it was that the finances are the grounding part of the human experience. Talking about serious topics like this, can make people like us who are trying to raise our vibrations feel icky and stuck. Finances are a lower vibration than anything else that creatives work with, so when I talk to my clients it’s not only tough for them to be up front, but it’s tough for me too.
I created this budget guide for both myself, and for you. This is my starting point for all of my clients, and it’s something I’m incredibly passionate about. I’ve written this blog post to talk a little more in depth about this workbook, but I’ll cut to the chase and give you the form to have this guide sent directly to your inbox. The workbook has 4 different sections including budget guides for your living room, dining room, bedroom, and home office.
I’ll cut to the chase and include the form here to grab your copy, but keep reading to learn why I made this and how it may affect your furniture shopping!
Why Did I Make This Furniture Budget Guide?
For the last few months I’ve been working as an independent contractor for a virtual design firm. The super tiny budgets that people have given me on some of these projects are mind blowing. I know, I know- we are in the age of Wayfair & Amazon, but never have I ever expected to get a quality sofa for $500. Let alone an entire room full of furniture and decor for $1000 total. Almost every client has needed to reassess their budget after I get started with them. I want to help you invest in you and your home.
Not only would the furniture you purchase not be of good quality but that also means it’s not good for the environment. I can see the wave of change happening majorly in the fashion industry, people wanting to invest in higher quality clothes that will last for decades, not days. I’m hoping to start seeing the advocacy for this in the home furnishing industry as well.
There is never not going to be a time for fast fashion and home decor, I was a broke ass college student not long ago, too. (See my broken Ikea sofa still in my living room today, 5 years old and broken for about 2.5 of that 5. I get it.) But people in my age group (30+), I really hope to help you realize there is a greater world outside of Wayfair. I see a lot of my peers looking to hire interior designers, thinking that we’re only shoppers and I’m willing to spend hours of my time – paid or not – sifting through budget websites. Interior Designers are people who help you curate a functional and beautiful space. We want your furniture to last a lifetime and will do the research to make sure you have that, and have the design details aesthetically to create space that makes your eyes and soul happy.
I’ve downloaded the guide, that is A LOT of money for furniture.
I know – and I agree. The caveat on this budget guide is that it’s the budget range you should expect when working with me. This budget will become our parameters for specifying your living room, dining room, bedroom, or home office furniture and decor. I work with a lot of amazing brands, and some of them are your typical furniture retailers you’ll be able to visit on your own, who I trust to create quality and highly detailed furnishings. A lot of my favorite brands to specify though with high quality goods that you can only get when working with an interior designer (me!) and they come with a higher price tag. I’m here to help you invest in your future, and I don’t want you to have to replace anything within the next five years, and these prices reflect that investment.
