So, a weird story, my husband and I are chronic couch sleepers. We don’t mean to be, but every dang night for YEARS now we have fallen asleep on the sofa, waking in the middle of the night (like 3am middle of the night), and shuffling ourselves up to bed. Trust me, I know how bad it is. I’ve woken up with back pain, neck pain, never feeling like I’m getting enough sleep pain. It’s terrible! I’ve tried whatever I could in the living room to try to detract from sleeping in there, less pillows, no blankets, etc. but we rent a super old house so it gets pretty chilly, and who doesn’t love a good throw blanket? My newest solution has become a way to entice us up to bed with a nice refresh of the space! Keep reading to see exactly what I did to turn our bedroom into our night time sanctuary.
Up Your Bedding Game
Are you ready for some more weird stories? I hope so because we’re about to get personal. My wonderful, caring, supportive husband (sorry babe), is a night sweater. Reading that word on the page all I can picture now is a literal, clothing sweater which I guess could be true because he gets so warm but I mean like, sweat sweater, haha!
I’ve been researching the best types of sheets for night sweats for a long time now, and finally landed on linen. When talking to friends and family about possibly purchasing linen sheets I always am confronted with how scratchy linen is. As a knitter, I’ve worked with linen before, and actually made one of my favorite summer tops out of it, and while I can say yes it can be quite crunchy in the beginning, it softens up beautifully! And quite frankly, none of the sheets I’ve ever owned in the past have ever been “luxury” quality, so I was willing to try anything!
In doing research on the linen sheets available, I came across the Casaluna line from Target. I was willing to splurge a little bit but didn’t want to go overboard and from what I could find I felt these were a good option for my budget! I also preferred the colors Casaluna had over others, and feel they really lend themselves to mixing and matching. I love the muted colors and I usually go coral but wanted a calming vibe for our bedroom so sprung for their Sage Green sheets & Natural quilt and pillow shams.
Decor
After getting the bedding situation all figured out, I added some new decor! Overall we basically had nothing in our bedroom. It’s always been very bland, all white furniture, and to be honest just clothes everywhere because we just have too much and not enough storage for it, but that’s a story for another day. I didn’t want to do a typical art piece above our bed plus we have the angled ceiling going on so I felt no matter what artwork wouldn’t feel balanced. Instead I sprung to hang shelving. I liked the idea of shelves instead because you can still add artwork and other trinkets, but can swap it out and change the balance depending on season or existing conditions like a sloped ceiling on one side. Here’s what I ended up adding for the new year!
I also added some new table lamps by Opal House from Target and cleared off our end tables to be more minimalist. I’m trying to keep my phone out of the bedroom, so my natural light alarm clock has been a lifesaver in that department!

Cozy Vibe Essentials
Finally, the number one cozy vibe essential for our bedroom is our essential oil diffuser. Having the heat on in the winter honestly destroys our sinuses and we can tell big time when we don’t turn ours on at night. I did invest in a new diffuser for the room because, again, I was getting too much white in a single area, and I’m so glad I did. This diffuser & my new oils are magical and are the perfect touch to the end of my nightly routine.
Most excitingly, I have a diffuser and a few of my favorite oils to giveaway to you! Follow the link here or in my top banner (it will take you to a third party website I’m using to host the giveaway and make selecting a winner easy) and submit your email address to enter! The giveaway ends at midnight on January 25, 2021.
