Sherwin Williams: Color of the Year 2021

When I found out about Sherwin William’s Color of the Year for 2021, I excitedly told everyone all about it! You should have seen my family & friend’s faces when I said it was a warm black/greyish color. (Yeah… I gotta work on my sales skills.)

Needless to say, after the year we’ve had, they were less than thrilled. Being someone who has incorporated deep dark colors in designs in the past, I am so excited and am hoping this trend will become more main stream because of this! So, for the first time ever, I invite you to keep on reading to learn how you can design a bedroom all around this wonderful color!

Some people may be super intimidated when using dark colors like this, but I’m all for using darker tones walls! I’ve chosen a warm white (SW1015) for the ceiling and trims. Don’t be afraid to amp it up, you can definitely go bold with other colors on the walls and ceilings. Check out my color inspiration board below for other colors that you will see I incorporated into my decor selection.

BRINGING IN LIGHTER COLORS

Use warm woods, don’t be afraid to mix tones

And mix those metals people!!! I know I didn’t do too much of those in this specific design but too much of one metal tone can become overwhelming and boring

LARGE ART AND WALL DECOR

The art above the bed was designed by my wonderful friend Beki Marquardt of Beki Marquardt Designs! She sells all sorts of printable art that makes these gorgeous prints accessible to all.

I also used a large mirror above the chest of drawers to make a vanity of sort. When creating this design I had used the main bedroom in our home build we’ve been planning (and I ended up loving this design so much I plan to actually use it when we build!) but I want to become one of those people that doesn’t need a TV on to fall asleep, so when we move this will be the perfect excuse to not put a TV in our room. This mirror from Anthropologie will make the room look larger.

POPS OF COLOR

Use your rug to pull it all together, as seasons change you can pick different colors within the rug to bring in new fun accessories and pillows.

Fun pops of accent furniture that can be used for lounging around during the day. I picked this great chaise lounge from Anthropologie and I can so picture myself cozied up on a winter day knitting. (Not kidding, I actually knit.)SW - Natural Boho.pngMORE COLOR TRENDS
