Designing a room is easy, decorating a room is the hard part. Maybe that’s my traditional instruction talking, or maybe I’m a closeted minimalist and haven’t come to terms with it quite yet, but decorating my space is always the hard part for me. That being said, I decided to curate some shelf decor essentials for myself to refer back to whenever I get stuck on the decor side of things, and figured this would be great for you to have as well! Hope you enjoy the pieces I’ve pulled together. 🤗
SORRY, I’M BOOK-ED
I will never forget all of the amazing tips I’ve received throughout my career on how important styling a space with books. My first internship was with a staging company as the lead designer’s assistant, and I was tasked with styling a bookcase. The company I worked for had boxes upon boxes of accessories dedicated specifically to this. Remember the magic of three’s, add in pops of color and texture, and don’t overload your shelves with books.
Think of books as the foundation of your decor, not only are they the perfect layering piece, but can also be a wonderful source of inspiration both in decor and your everyday life. Check out some of my top picks below to help get you started.
STAYIN’ ALIVE
It’s easy to stay alive when you’re a faux plant. Obviously, we highly encourage using real plants whenever possible, but if you haven’t formed your green thumb yet, I have a few options for you below.
THROW IT ALL TOGETHER – THAT’S HOW WE ROLL
Finally, add some nice vases with florals or pampas grass and a few frames with personal photos. These types of pieces are perfect for adding some seasonal decor and pops of different colors throughout the year. And adding frames or sculptural pieces with bookends or actual sculptures, are all great ways to add a little texture and interest to an otherwise boring stack of books. (Even though the books are obviously super interesting, we just need something to pull us in sometimes.)
