I’m not one to be super into following trends. I’m not an HGTV watcher – most of the time at least- and I was in college when you-know-who revolutionized design as we know it today with the rise of farmhouse design. With each passing year, the trends in home interior design continue to evolve and change. As much as I’m not one to follow trends so closely, I can’t help but wonder how some of the interior design trends we see this year will effect design for the next few. As we move towards a new era of modernization, homeowners are looking for new and exciting ways to update their spaces, especially with how much we live, work, and play in them in this new era of life. I’ve dug in for you, and want to show you some of the top interior design trends that are coming up for the rest of 2023!
Historical Home Influences
One of the most significant trends we are seeing in 2023 is an increased focus on sustainable materials. Homeowners are becoming more aware of their impact on the environment, and are looking for eco-friendly options that will help reduce their carbon footprint. Materials such as bamboo, cork, and reclaimed wood are becoming more popular in home design, as they not only look great, but are also environmentally friendly. I do urge you to look into these products a little more before purchasing them for your home. The environmental impact may not be as decreased as we originally thought, due to the emissions and travel time needed to import products like this to the states, especially bamboo products!
The direction I’m seeing this trend go, is definitely on the antiquing and re-use side. Finding pieces that someone has restored and given new life is a thrill! And nobody makes furniture the way the used to anymore. (Sorry – had to.) But it’s true!! I adore antiquing and am finding new love and patience for the hunt. Head out to your local shops, a lot of them have vendors that give some love to old pieces, and some will even work with you one-on-one to create a custom piece just for your home. Not that I believe we should invest in furniture to pass on to our children one day, but a well-loved and unique piece can stay with you for a lifetime. What’s more sustainable than that?
Maximalist Design
Minimalism has been a dominant trend in home design for several years now, but in 2023, we are seeing a shift towards maximalism. This trend involves filling a space with bold patterns, colors, and textures to create a visually exciting environment. Think vibrant wallpaper, statement art pieces, and layered textures.
Gone are the days of neutral color schemes dominating home design. This year, bold colors are making a comeback. From deep blues and greens to vibrant yellows and oranges, homeowners are opting for more daring and adventurous color choices. These bold colors can be incorporated into furniture, accent pieces, and even walls to make a statement.
Biophilic Design
Biophilic design is all about bringing the outdoors in. This trend involves incorporating natural elements such as plants, water features, and natural light into home design. Not only does this trend create a calming and serene environment, but it also helps to improve air quality and reduce stress levels.
Whether you’re looking to update your home’s interior design or simply want to stay on top of the latest trends, incorporating one or more of these trends into your space is a great way to stay ahead of the curve. Stay tuned for more updates on interior design trends in our next newsletter.
