How to Create the Coziest Fall Reading Nook: 9 Must-Have Decor Ideas for 2025
Fall always makes me crave slower moments. I don’t need a house full of themed decor—I just want a corner of the world that feels warm, textured, and peaceful. A space for cider-sipping, sweater-wearing, and yes, reading a few pages before I inevitably pick up a knitting project instead.
This year, I didn’t start with Pinterest-perfect vignettes or trending fall color palettes. I started with a feeling.
A mood board made of sheep & wool festivals, vintage bookstores, crisp air, and hot drinks in heavy mugs. No pumpkins in sight. And definitely no plaid skirts. (Sorry, Gilmore Girls girlies.)
From that mood board, I created a cozy little reading nook setup that captures all of that grounded, nostalgic energy—without screaming “seasonal display.” If you’re looking to create a reading nook that actually makes you want to slow down and stay a while, these nine pieces are my go-to building blocks.
A Chair You Can Sink Into
Look for something oversized, deep-seated, and soft—think boucle, slipcovered linen, or a vintage-inspired frame with a modern twist. Bonus points for a swivel base or something you can pull your feet up on.
The chair I picked is a beatiful velvet swivel chair, it’s a client favorite!
A Plush Throw
Fall is the season of layering. Textiles instantly cozy up a space. I love mixing a heavier wool or knit blanket with a lighter, gauzy one in a complementary tone.
A Task Lamp
Fall is the season of layering. Textiles instantly cozy up a space. I love mixing a heavier wool or knit blanket with a lighter, gauzy one in a complementary tone. This task lamp was picked for my crafters and readers, while a typical table lamp is best, sometimes we need a more task oriented light that can move with how we’re lounging.
Grounding Side Table
You want somewhere to set your mug down (or maybe your current stack of books, or your current craft WIP). Choose something sturdy, with a little texture—like a wood pedestal table or marble-topped topped to give you that organic vibe
Textural Pillow Layers
For your lumbar support or unexpected nap time. Textural pillows in varying colors will level up the coziness, while patterned pillows will add a point of interest to break up the textures. (And can be swapped for your kitschy holiday decor when you’re ready!)
Books (That You Actually Want to Read)
Books (I have the first book of my fave fantasy series linked) and a notebook to write down anything that comes to mind are the perfect staples.
